Into the Future
Posted on September 19, 2016
After attending the DMD pathfinder’s leadership camp over the weekend I have returned home feeling empowered. Empowered to move forward, empowered to make a change in my life and the lives of others affected and not affected by DMD.
DMD pathfinders is a user-led charity, run for and by those affected by DMD, promoting and working for choice and quality of life for teenagers and adults affected with Duchenne.
Those living with Duchenne are living longer and DMD pathfinders aims to support those affected in living full and independent lives, doing all the things that anybody would expect to do in life.
The leadership camp was a great opportunity to have some interesting and thought provoking discussions, sharing in both ideas and experiences. I had the opportunity to facilitate discussions and network with those affected with Duchenne, this enabled me to realise my true potential as an individual and the role I could play in taking DMD pathfinders forward into the future.
After a disappointing summer I left feeling re-energised and excited about the times ahead.
Times of disappointment should not be turned into discouragement although this can easily happen. These are times of reflection, faced with a choice of what direction to take. These times enable us to ask where we are going and who we are as individuals.
With less than a week before returning to my second year at university, I am filled with excitement about what lies ahead. Although there are feelings of nervousness as well, I look forward to see what lies on the horizon.
